What's there in Negros Island: Don Salvador Benedicto

Rice terraces, rich forest, marvelous view of mountains, and the fresh scent of pine are some of the reasons why this quaint town of Don Salvador Benedicto was dubbed "Little Baguio" of Negros. The Eco-tourism highway of Negros Occidental successfully played its part in revealing the beauty of nature that will surely feed your wanderlust while on the road. Should you be in a group, try renting a car/van so you'll have the luxury of stopping at picturesque places along your way. Moreover, if you think that chocolate hills are only found in bohol then think again, because you can also find them here on your way further to San Carlos City.
Don Salvador Benedicto is an hour away from Bacolod City heading toward the center of Negros, facing the north side of Mt. Kanlaon. This scenic town is a perfect weekend getaway to unwind from the hectic city life. Also, If you're visiting Bacolod for a couple of days and would like to spice up your journey with some nature escapade, a day-tour at Don Salvador Benedicto is very feasible.
30-Minute walk with nature
One of the famous landmark and pride of Don Salvador Benedicto is the Malatan-og falls or commonly known as the cigarette falls. Known for its cigarette-shape-like appearance from a far, Malatan-og is a perfect destination for nature enthusiast.
The trail is easy for you to navigate and only for a few miles from the highway (30-minutes trek on average). Still, be extra careful especially for beginners because you'll be passing through cliffs with no railings, slippery slopes, and rough tracks that could cause serious injuries; so wear proper trekking shoes.
There is no entrance fee here and taking a guide is absolutely optional. Passage way to the falls is located along the highway and if you're taking a bus just tell the conductor to alight you at "lantawan" a local term for viewing deck. Parking spaces are also provided if you have a service and it's kinda your clue that you've arrived at your destination. Aside from that, you can already see the falls looking like a cigarette from the highway.
Don't worry if you're not so fit or into a rough-trail adventure. If you just probably want to enjoy a good view, you can find several mountain resorts here where you can laze your time over a lovely scenery.

Pine trees are prominent in this area. You'll know you've reached Don Salvador Benedicto if you start seeing Pines. If you care enough to stop, explore their Pine forest and breathe the fresh air.
